At Least Drunken Sailors Spend Their Own Money!
Bill Lewis has spent an additional $3,066.66 for attorney’s fees in the month of July 2025. This brings the total of our money spent for attorney’s fees in the first seven months of 2025 to $22,325.15. Attorney’s fees for the month of August have not been made public yet. There’s no end in sight.
Lewis seems unable to make any decision relating to the core business of the Village or take any action without getting cover from the Village attorney. He appears to love bureaucracy and has, as the Declaration of Independence cites as one of the causes for American independence from King George and England:
“… erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”
We now have a planning commission to plan for the vast swaths of vacant land and all the industry rushing in to provide jobs here. It would also be useful to slip in the solar nightmare that the residents roundly and loudly rejected when it was publicly debated at the high school. Of course, Lewis has appointed his wife and a couple of supporters to that board. We also have a zoning board of review – a function that the Council has always carried out the few times a question has arisen since the Village was founded in 1891.
From the matter of Lewis occupying incompatible offices, which is illegal under state law per MCL 15.181, et. seq., to justifying spending public money to cut down trees on the properties of his supporters that they demanded of the Council in 2024, to hiring an “arborist” to provide Lewis cover for cutting down those trees, Village taxpayers are being abused.
