IGNORANCE IS BLISS: Except To The Victims

IGNORANCE IS BLISS: Except To The Victims

On August 13, 2025, a Village resident placed a sign on a trailer urging the recall of Village Trustee Ben Moore.  You can see a picture of that sign posted on this website on August 14, 2025.

Shortly thereafter, on social media, a Township resident (not in the Village) blasted the motives of the person responsible for the sign.  It never ceases to amaze how content people are to avoid the work of finding the truth.   What is even more amazing is the lack of accountability for such behavior.

Social media has become a pit of vipers where fiction is offered as fact and opinions masquerading as truth have not a grain of truth in them.   Here the social media poster accused the person responsible for the sign of being “nasty” and “unforgiving” toward Ben Moore. Conceding that Ben Moore “had problems” the poster ignored the fact that these were felony problems which are a class apart from mistakes in which people have not intentionally caused injury to others.

The sign of which the social media poster took offense is a testimony to the bliss of ignorance that social media allows.  The poster attributed the sign to “the house on Hancock” which would come as news to the people in the houses on Hancock.  The poster didn’t even get that right.

Had the social media poster made an effort to learn the facts, the poster would have found that the person responsible for the sign has endured far more from Trustee Ben Moore, before and after the November 2024 election, than the poster would ever tolerate; more than most of us would tolerate.  Also, the poster would have learned that the motivation behind the sign was not due to the person’s being “nasty or “unforgiving” of past criminal and antisocial behavior, but rather, current behavior that has injured another person financially accompanied by other goings on.

As recently as the 1990s, this Village was a quaint little rural settlement.  It was built by people who were possessed of an ethic that emphasized diligence, discipline, and frugality.  A man’s word could be taken to the bank.  Honesty was valued and foolish or careless talk was held in contempt.  There were businesses here and a larger population.  The residents took pride in their community which was reflected in the care and maintenance they devoted to their properties and the Village itself.

Now what do we have?  A smaller population, only one small business, properties that are blighted, taxes that are ever-increasing, and the money being squandered by the majority on the Village Council helping some cronies and supporters to further their own interests.  This is not a recipe for success.

Finally, the social media poster emphasized that Trustee Ben Moore was “legally ELECTED” and that if the person placing the sign has a problem with Trustee Ben Moore that he “address it through proper channels”.  Recall is a proper channel.
